Mothers & Moon · Loss support

When you have to say goodbye to your baby.

Sometimes pregnancy unfolds differently from what you had hoped. You may experience a miscarriage, stillbirth or the loss of your baby around birth. In the midst of everything that is happening, there can be space for you too.

I’m Lindsay, a doula at Mothers & Moon. I offer personal support through pregnancy and infant loss: during the loss and saying goodbye, at home or in hospital, and in the time afterwards. I listen, offer practical and emotional support, and make room with you for what you need.

There is space for your story

You do not need to know what to say or what you need. Whether your pregnancy was still very early, not everyone knew about your baby, or your loss happened some time ago, your experience is welcome here.

Grief can exist alongside many other feelings. There is no right way to go through this, and you do not have to explain yourself.

My support through loss

You can turn to me during a miscarriage, around your baby’s birth and saying goodbye, or when you need support afterwards. Together we agree when and how I can be there for you and your partner, if you have one. This may be a conversation, support around saying goodbye, or care at several different moments.

During the loss and saying goodbye

I can be with you at home or in hospital. As a familiar presence, I listen to what is on your mind, help you put your questions and wishes into words, and offer calm and practical support. Together, in coordination with your midwife and care team, we explore what matters to you in spending time with your baby and saying goodbye.

Would you like a personal farewell or tangible keepsakes? I can help you explore and shape your wishes. You decide what feels right, including anything you do not want.

In the time afterwards

You remain welcome after saying goodbye. In our conversations, we make room for your baby, your experience and everything the loss brings. I listen and help you explore what could support you in everyday life. Your story does not need a tidy ending, and your grief does not need to follow a particular pace.

Space for you and your partner

You may experience the loss differently. I make room for each person’s story, for what is difficult to say and for the support each of you needs. You are equally welcome without a partner.

Including early pregnancy loss or a loss some time ago

You do not need to have an existing doula support package with me to ask for care. Whether your pregnancy was very early or the loss happened some time ago, you are welcome to arrange a conversation or a personal remembrance moment.

How do we begin?

Send me a message with whatever you would like to share right now. You do not need to know exactly what support you need. We will discuss your wishes, my availability, the possibilities and the cost, so you know what we are agreeing before we begin.

Talk about your support

The water method: time to meet your baby

After pregnancy loss or stillbirth, the water method may be an option for caring for your baby’s body. The baby is placed in water. This may help preserve the skin for longer and give you time to look at your baby, be together and make memories.

Some parents find this meaningful. Others prefer something else, or want to hear about the possibilities in their own time. You do not need to know what you want in advance, and there is no obligation.

Discuss the water method with your midwife or hospital. They can help you decide whether it is appropriate and guide the care and practical arrangements. I can support you as you explore your wishes and say goodbye.

You can find more information in Dutch through Berrefonds and watermethode.nl.

Additional support and memories

Alongside my personal support, these organisations may offer further care or help you preserve memories. If you would like, I can explore with you what feels right for your family.
